Introduction: Billy McHaffie

Community Missionary/Manager
New Horizons Christian Centre
I give thanks and glory to God through our saviour Christ Jesus for having the opportunity to introduce myself to you as a new member of the staff team at ECM. After 5 years of serving the homeless population in Edinburgh, I am looking forward with excitement and hope to the challenge ahead! Working from our HQ at Pilrig Street my responsibility is in developing and moving forward what was formerly the “Drop in Centre” in Arthur Street. We will be doing this under the name of New Horizons Christian Centre. A big step for me, but a breeze for God!

As a Christian I came to our Lord 9 years ago and was saved from a life of complete despair and desperation and was called to work with the homeless. In that time I have drawn close to those who are imprisoned in addiction and that is the main focus of my ministry.

Isaiah 61
The Year of the Lord’s Favour

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

It has been a real privilege to serve our Lord in this way and my heart has been moved many times as I have seen lives transformed.
It is refreshing to be working in an evangelical mission where our priority will be winning souls for Christ and glorifying the Kingdom of Heaven.

I was led to the mission by the Chairman Graham Scholefield, and after meeting with the board and the new Executive Director, Lawrie Hudson, I am convinced that I am in the right place. I look forward to working with all the staff at the Mission and I am already aware of the great privilege I have been given.
I would ask for your prayers, especially for volunteers, as God leads us forward hopefully in a dynamic way. Please pray also for vision for myself and the power to carry that out, and for all the staff at the Mission, that we glorify God in all we do.

In Christ
Billy McHaffie
