What if you had dreams so big you never thought they’d come true? What if you had a vision that would change lives if they became reality? What if you knew those dreams and visions weren’t big enough? What if you believed that God’s love for a city meant that those aspirations were only a small part of a much bigger picture?

Home always holds a special place in our hearts; for Duncan returning home to Edinburgh to begin a new job as the CEO of Edinburgh City Mission it was with a heart to see people in Edinburgh encounter Jesus in a meaningful way. With experience as a UCCF (a Christian organisation working with students at universities) worker and training with Cornhill, Duncan is no stranger to City Missions, he has enjoyed being with London City Mission for the last 12 years as their Ministry Director.

Edinburgh City Mission exists to see the people of Edinburgh, in most need, experiencing God’s love and allow them to hear the amazing gospel. This is made possible through stimulating and strengthening the church’s mission in Edinburgh in these communities. Currently the Mission is involved with The Care Van, run in conjunction with Bethany Christian Trust, and Basics Banks, run in partnership with churches throughout Edinburgh.  Through building relationships, earning the right to be heard and being available in meaningful ways the hope is that there will be opportunities to share the gospel not only through demonstrating Christ's love but through conversations as well.

As Duncan continues leading the team at Edinburgh City Mission as we work towards our vision, he has outlined 3 goals; running fortnightly prayer meetings in partnership with churches and their local missions, aiming to employ 30+ missionaries and 350 new donors to fund these recruits and start a gap year programme to enable young people to be involved in reaching people with the gospel. There are areas of the city where there is little or no church involvement and Duncan also has a vision for the Mission to play a part in changing this in the next few years.

Edinburgh City Mission has a clear Mission and Vision, drawn from a strong heart for the people of the city.

So yes, Edinburgh City Mission is starting a new era under a new CEO and as a staff we have big dreams for what the future holds as we reach out in new ways to the people of Edinburgh. But the most amazing part is that we are trusting in a God who is bigger than all of it and are excited to see what His continuing vision for the city holds.
